Indian Citizen Gagged, Bound, and Robbed of Approximately $90,000

On June 1, 2022, a man visited the apartment of an Indian citizen for the purpose of repairing a gas boiler. Some time later, on June 8, 2022, around 9:30 PM, the same individual returned with a friend to the same apartment, where they threatened the homeowner with a weapon, gagged him, bound his feet with a belt, and stole between $85,000 and $90,000, along with 35,000 AMD, before fleeing the scene.

According to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, the case of robbery against the Indian citizen has been uncovered by the investigative division of the Yerevan city investigative department's Center and Norq-Marach administrative districts. The report of the theft was received from the Indian citizen on June 8, 2022, at 10:16 PM.

During the preparatory materials' investigation based on the report, several circumstances of the incident were clarified, including the crime scene and the identity of one of the suspects. It was reported that on June 1, 2022, another man visited the Indian citizen’s apartment to repair the gas boiler.

Following the robbery, a criminal case was initiated under Article 175, Part 3, Item 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The Indian citizen has been recognized as a victim and has been questioned regarding the circumstances of the case.

During the pre-trial investigation, a site inspection was carried out, witnesses were interrogated, expert examinations were assigned, and footage from cameras installed in adjacent areas was seized and examined in accordance with the law. As a result of the necessary investigative and procedural actions undertaken, along with operational measures conducted by the police of Armenia, the identity of one of the individuals suspected of committing the crime has been established; he is a resident of Yerevan born in 2000. This individual has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been interrogated.

The investigation is ongoing. Necessary measures are being taken to ensure an objective and comprehensive examination, to determine the identity of other individuals involved in the robbery, to locate them, and to present them to the prosecuting authorities, while verifying the circumstances indicated in the testimonies. Instructions have been given to the investigative body, as stated in the report.
