Consultative Body for Decommunization and Derussification to Be Established in Ukraine

The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has initiated the formation of a consultative body that will address issues of decommunization and derussification, reports ТАСС.

“We have held public discussions and initiated the establishment of a consultative body under the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, as well as the Institute of National Memory of Ukraine, which will deal with issues related to derussification, decommunization, and decolonization,” the statement indicates.

According to the announcement, these processes should “take place in a civilized manner.” Local authorities will now coordinate the dismantling of monuments and other objects with the new body.

“Local self-government bodies, in dialogue with society, should reach a consensus on the dismantling or transfer of monuments and other objects from the Soviet past and later coordinate it with the Council,” the message states.
