Video: 'After Aliyev's Statements, a Tremor Begins in Armenia' - Harutyunyan
According to Arayik Harutyunyan, the chief of staff to the Prime Minister, a tremor begins in Armenia after every statement made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, with the sentiment that 'the country has been sold.' 'People, let’s respect ourselves. By calling someone a Turk or glorifying Turkey, we are not solving our problems; we are showing our weaknesses and fears. When you call someone a Turk, it means you have fears, and if you do, you need to seek a solution to them,' he said during a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly.
Harutyunyan stressed that the current Armenian government is excessively honest, which often does not help. 'During internal discussions, some of our colleagues say yes, you need to be a scoundrel and cunning to achieve certain goals, but we will not go down that path; we will continue to be honest and just,' he noted.
He emphasized that negotiations are necessary because, as a result, one must make concessions and compromises to find an optimal solution. 'Negotiations are for compromises; there is no other option,' he stated.
When asked what Armenia is ready to concede, the chief of staff replied, 'Compromises depend on the environment, on the agenda of the negotiations that exist; you can go into negotiations thinking that you can make small concessions, but end up giving up a lot. People, what do you want from us, for us to take a weak position?' He assured that the authorities of Artsakh are aware of all the processes taking place.
'To our colleagues in Artsakh, to the National Assembly, I can say that they should study reality a bit more,' Harutyunyan remarked.
According to the chief of staff, the issue of enclaves is not being discussed, as Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has also stated.
