Çavuşoğlu Announces Discussions in Istanbul Involving Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and the UN

Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced that in the coming days, Turkey, Russia, the UN, and Ukraine will hold a technical meeting in Istanbul to discuss the creation of a mechanism for the control of ships carrying grain out of the sea.

Previously, Çavuşoğlu had stated that the UN has a proposal to form a contact group comprising the four parties (Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and the UN) regarding the issue of wheat shipments from Ukrainian ports. According to him, Turkey has agreed to this and the idea of holding a technical meeting has emerged.

“On one hand, we are trying to bring the parties to the negotiating table, and on the other hand, we are working to establish a safe corridor to clear mines for the safe passage of ships carrying Ukrainian grain. Together with the UN, Turkey, Russia, and Ukraine, we are working in this direction. We are receiving inquiries from countries that wish to join this process. There is no competition here, but as a key country, everyone sees Turkey as essential, and we have gained the trust of the parties. We will discuss this mechanism during the technical meeting in Istanbul in the coming days,” Çavuşoğlu stated.
