Video: Tovmasyan Reports Incidents of Violence Outside Government's 3rd Building
Member of the National Assembly group "I Have Honor" Takhouhi Tovmasyan's statement:
"I have documented instances of disproportionate use of force against citizens, MPs, and minors gathered near the entrance of the Government's 3rd building and submitted a report in the form of videos and photographs to Armenia's Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan.
In the letter, I specifically noted that police officers had assaulted Armenian National Assembly MPs Ishkhan Saghatelyan, Gegham Manukyan, Aram Vardevanyan, Aghvan Vartanian, Tigran Abrahamyan, Ashot Simonian, as well as many citizens participating in the peaceful rally, resulting in injured citizens.
From near the Government's 3rd building, police officers, using force, detained minors aged 16 and 17. They also reported that they were subjected to personal insults while in the police vehicle.
Additionally, during the actions that took place in front of the specified building between the police and protesters, officers used brutal force against "Iravunk" journalist Hrant Safaryan, which obstructed the journalist's professional activity. The editor of YerkirMedia.am, Vahe Sargsyan, was also beaten and then attempted to be detained.
Obstructing a journalist's professional activity is unacceptable and illegal, a point that has already been addressed and condemned multiple times by various international organizations.
Once again, I find it important to emphasize that police operations should be based on legality, respecting individual rights and freedoms, and principles of dignity and humanity. In exercising their powers, the police must act in accordance with the necessity of protecting the rights and freedoms of individuals and citizens as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, whereas the aforementioned incidents indicate the contrary.
I have demanded that the Prosecutor General undertake all legal measures to clarify the circumstances of the committed acts and provide a legal assessment.
