Why is the case of the former head of the Radioelectronic Warfare Troops transferred from the NSS?
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that the case of Vahan Avetisyan, the former head of the Radioelectronic Warfare Troops, has been transferred from the National Security Service (NSS) to the Military Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
As it is known, Avetisyan is on the defendant's chair in the context of a criminal case regarding the alleged useless weapons acquired for $42 million during the administration of the third president of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan. The case was being investigated by the NSS, but it is now in the hands of the Military Investigative Department, which has summoned him for questioning this time.
Another important circumstance is that in 2020, Vahan Avetisyan sent an open letter to the Prime Minister from prison, stating that he was being persecuted by the Chief of General Staff Artak Davtyan and his deputy Stepan Galstyan. A year after this alert, Galstyan was arrested again in a case involving abuses, while Artak Davtyan sits on the defendant's chair in the same case but remains at liberty.
According to the information we have received, those questioned in this case have insisted to the law enforcement that they were not aware that the weapons were unfit for use at the time of purchase. When the weapons were acquired and attempts were made to use them, it became clear that they could not track or destroy the enemy's drone.
Furthermore, based on the information we received, the deputies of the Chief of General Staff, Tigran Khachatryan and Stepan Galstyan, have been questioned in this criminal case. For more details, see today’s issue of the newspaper.
