Bottles Thrown into the Ring, One Struck the Head Coach of the Armenian National Team During European Championship Incident

Armenian national boxing team member and World Championship silver medalist Davit Chaloyan was eliminated from the quarter-finals of the European Championship due to a technical defeat.

The quarter-finals of the European Championship are ongoing in Yerevan. In the super heavyweight category, Davit Chaloyan faced Spanish boxer Ayub Ghadfan in the quarter-finals. Halfway through the first round, the referee halted the match, awarding a technical victory to the Spanish athlete. The referee was from England.

This decision was decidedly not accepted by the crowd, which resulted in bottles being thrown into the ring, one of which hit the head coach of the Armenian national team, Karen Aghamalyan.

The Armenian Boxing Federation has filed a complaint regarding the referee's decision. In the evening session, four boxers from the Armenian national team will enter the ring: Gurgen Madoyan at 67 kg will face Georgia's Lasha Gurulin, Rafael Harutyunyan at 86 kg will compete against Belgium's Victor Shelstraet, Arthur Bazeian at 57 kg will take on Turkey's Betuhan Sitfi, and Narek Manasyan at 92 kg will fight Greece's Vahagn Nanidyan.
