Bachkov Wins 5-0, Securing Armenia's First Medal
Olympic bronze medalist boxer Hovhannes Bachkov has advanced to the semifinals of the European Championship taking place in Yerevan. The quarterfinal bouts are continuing at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex.
As a member of the Armenian national team, Bachkov (63.5 kg) faced Czech boxer Novak Petri in his second match and won with a commanding score of 5-0. This victory has allowed Bachkov to reach the semifinals and secure Armenia's first medal at the Yerevan tournament, guaranteeing at least a bronze medal.
Earlier, Artur Harutyunyan (51 kg) and Baregam Harutyunyan (48 kg) faced defeats in the quarterfinals. In the afternoon session, world championship silver medalist David Chalayane will compete in the quarterfinals as well.
In the evening session, four Armenian boxers will take to the ring. Gurgen Madoyan (67 kg) will face Georgia's Lasha Gurulin, Raphael Harutyunyan (86 kg) will compete against Belgium's Victor Shelstraet, Arthur Bazeian (57 kg) will go up against Turkey's Betuhan Sitfin, and Narek Manasyan (92 kg) will battle Greece's Vahagn Nanidzyan.
