554 Million AMD Allocated for the Construction of the 'Ajapnyak' Metro Station
Yerevan's municipality will allocate 554 million AMD from the reserve fund for the design work related to the construction of the 'Ajapnyak' metro station. The decision was made during a city council session with 37 votes in favor, 1 against, and 4 abstentions.
During the session, Yerevan's Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan clarified that this is the next phase of metro construction. The municipality considers the project crucial for alleviating the city's transport system.
Deputy Mayor Stepan Machyan mentioned that the overall estimated cost of the project for the city of Yerevan will range from 30 to 100 million USD. The final total expenditure will be announced soon.
It is noteworthy that earlier, former Chief Architect of Yerevan Arthur Meschyan stated that the new metro station will be built on a bridge across the Hrazdan River, although the project cost was not specified. The business plan being considered by the city hall includes two components: the construction of a shopping center adjacent to the 'Ajapnyak' metro station and the renovation of outdated residential buildings in the surrounding area.
According to the municipality's plan, the new metro station, which will be 525 meters long, will be accessed via a tunnel whose construction began during the Soviet era but remained unfinished. The project also includes extending the metro line from Davtashen to the northwestern part of the capital.
