What Caused the Road Collapse in Yerevan: City Hall Reports

As previously reported, a landslide occurred today on the section of Leningradian Street leading to the Tsitsernakaberd highway in Yerevan. The incident was accompanied by the collapse of a 22 square meter section of the roadway and a reinforced concrete retaining wall. As a result, two external lighting poles were toppled, cables were damaged, and there is a risk of further roadway collapse. Fortunately, there have been no injuries, but the Tsitsernakaberd highway has been closed from both directions.

Levon Sardaryan, head of the Yerevan City Hall's Information Department, informed Auroranews.am that the collapse occurred due to non-compliance with construction standards and the failure to perform necessary reinforcement works. Sardaryan also noted that the construction works in the collapsed area are being carried out by the company “Sahakyan-shin” LLC. According to preliminary information, traffic in that area is expected to be restricted for 1 to 1.5 months.
