Poland Terminates Russian Gas Supply Agreement
Poland's government is prematurely terminating the Russian gas supply agreement. According to RIA Novosti, this was announced by Piotr Naimski, the government's representative for strategic energy infrastructure, during a broadcast on Polish radio.
Under the existing contract, which was valid until the end of 2022, Poland could receive up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia. However, the country's authorities have decided not to extend the agreement. On April 27, Gazprom halted gas supplies to Bulgaria's Bulgargaz and Poland's PGNiG due to their refusal to pay for gas in rubles.
The government of Mateusz Morawiecki has passed a resolution to terminate the "Yamal" contract established between the governments of Poland and Russia in 1993. Naimski stated that it is evident after 30 years that gas relations between Poland and Russia are coming to an end.
