The Shirak Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation to clarify all circumstances surrounding the murder of a 42-year-old resident of Gyumri.

A report regarding the stabbing of a woman living in Gyumri was received on May 22, 2022, at 22:27. As a result of immediate measures taken by the investigative-operational group, the crime scene was established, where the body of a woman born in 1979 was found with multiple cut and stab wounds.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated under the first part of Article 104 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. During the preliminary investigation, information was obtained indicating that the victim sustained life-threatening bodily injuries at the home of a friend.

According to preliminary data, on the evening of May 22, a dispute occurred between the 42-year-old woman and her husband, a resident of Gyumri born in 1972, over personal matters. During the argument, with the presence of the woman's friend, he inflicted multiple stab wounds to his wife's abdomen and jaw with a knife, causing fatal injuries.

The man voluntarily presented himself to law enforcement, was arrested, and questioned regarding the circumstances of the incident, providing a confession. Necessary investigative and procedural actions were carried out, including examinations of the crime scene and the body, questioning witnesses, and the recovery of the knife believed to be the weapon of the crime, which showed traces resembling blood. Samples were taken, a forensic medical examination of the body was ordered, and the clothing worn by the victim and her husband at the time of the incident was seized.

The investigation is ongoing. Efforts are being made to ensure an objective and comprehensive investigation, to clarify all circumstances of the incident, and to verify the details mentioned in the testimonies. A directive has been issued to the investigative body.
