Biden: 'We are thinking about what we need to do' regarding monkeypox spread

“Everyone should be concerned about the spread of monkeypox. We are thinking about what we need to do,” said U.S. President Joe Biden today, May 22, according to Reuters.

Biden stated that U.S. health officials are exploring possible ways to combat the disease, including treatment options and vaccinations. Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported 92 confirmed cases and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox in 12 non-endemic countries. The WHO explained that the virus has been found in individuals who have not visited endemic countries, noting that this is an “extremely unusual phenomenon.” Recent cases of the virus have been detected in Australia, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada, Portugal, the United States, France, Switzerland, and Sweden.
