Yerevan Must Respond Positively to Baku's Peace Initiatives: Cavusoglu

The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu believes that Yerevan must respond positively to Baku's peace initiatives. He stated this in New York at the UN headquarters while answering questions from Azerbaijani journalists, reports Sputnik Armenia.

“We constantly urge and encourage Armenia to respond to these goodwill intentions. We see that radicals and the diaspora are exerting pressure on the authorities in Armenia from within and abroad. We have told not only Blinken (the U.S. Secretary of State) but also our other interlocutors that Armenia should be encouraged more in this direction. During our last meeting, we again reminded that Turkey and Azerbaijan want peace and are demonstrating goodwill for the sake of ensuring stability in the region,” said Çavuşoğlu.

He noted that following the victory in the 44-day war, Azerbaijan has clearly shown its desire for peace in the region. Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Azerbaijan has offered Armenia a comprehensive peace agreement. The diplomat stated that Azerbaijan, in turn, supports negotiations regarding the normalization of relations between Ankara and Yerevan.
