WHO Calls Emergency Consultation Due to Monkeypox Outbreak
The World Health Organization has convened an emergency consultation of experts to discuss the outbreak of monkeypox disease. Infection cases have already been identified in at least 10 countries.
The disease spreads through direct physical contact and droplet transmission, primarily prevalent in Central and Western Africa, where children are most affected. The mortality rate varies between 4% and 22%. The incubation period lasts from 5 to 21 days, and symptoms of monkeypox include fever, back and muscle pain, chills, and fatigue.
