Video: Corruption-related abuses uncovered in law enforcement system – NSS

The National Security Service of Armenia, in line with ongoing efforts to combat corruption and in active cooperation with the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia, has uncovered a case of extortion and acceptance of a large bribe by an official of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

According to reports from the press service of the NSS, based on operational data received by the Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Department of the NSS, it has been established through complex operational-investigative measures that a former investigator of the Abovyan Investigative Division of the Kotayk regional investigative department, identified as S.S. (dismissed in January this year), while acting as a public official and carrying out functions of a government representative at the Investigative Committee of Armenia, demanded and received a bribe amounting to 40,000 US dollars, equivalent to about 19,400,000 AMD, from the mother of H.A., a defendant in a murder case under investigation.

Additionally, it has been revealed that S.S., during his tenure, accepted a bribe of 500 US dollars, equivalent to about 230,000 AMD, from the father of another defendant to perform certain actions in relation to another criminal case under his jurisdiction. The materials prepared regarding this case have been transferred to the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures. As a result of operational-investigative measures conducted within the framework of a criminal case initiated under the relevant articles of the RA Criminal Code, on May 17 of this year, individuals involved in the described events were detained by the Anti-Corruption Committee.

S.S. and another individual connected to the case have been arrested. Necessary investigative measures are being conducted by the investigative body to fully clarify the circumstances of the cases.
