Pashinyan Suggested the Attendees to Applaud the Citizen of Armenia
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, suggested the attendees to applaud the citizen of Armenia during his speech at the Armenian Democracy Forum taking place at the Mariott Hotel in Yerevan.
"I would like us to applaud the citizen of Armenia, who is the core, the cornerstone, and the pillar of democracy in Armenia," said Pashinyan, prompting an applause from the audience.
In his speech, Pashinyan also emphasized that the citizens of Armenia have given a mandate to the Armenian government, which in turn has adopted a peace and security agenda. In this regard, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the citizens' awareness regarding both domestic and international issues when it comes to decision-making.
"When we address issues related to the peace agenda, negotiations, and history, some interpret this as a debate between past and present governments. This has nothing to do with it. My political team considers it our duty to provide adequate and proper information to citizens about what has happened with us," said Pashinyan.
The Prime Minister declared that the ruling political force has brought democracy to Armenia, and it now considers its mission to bring peace to the country. Pashinyan expressed confidence that they will succeed in this endeavor.
"And I believe that all democratic forces in Armenia should unite around this mission," he added.
Pashinyan also mentioned that democracy in Armenia is not without its challenges. Among these challenges, he pointed out the "use of democracy against democracy."
"This is when the principles of democracy are used for the destruction of democracy. Along this path, we need to outline our strategy on how to overcome this challenge, and my firm belief is that the best way to achieve this is through the establishment of democratic institutions and the democratization of state institutions," he explained.
Amid the challenges, Pashinyan also referenced the inadequacies of the judicial system, emphasizing the need for reforms.
It is worth noting that alongside the Armenian Democracy Forum at the Mariott Hotel in Yerevan, citizens are conducting a protest action outside the hotel.
