Igor Khachaturov Detained: Investigative Committee Provides Details

The investigative division of the Serious Crimes Department of the Yerevan Investigative Committee is continuing the investigation into the criminal case initiated regarding the violence against a police officer by participants of a civil disobedience action organized by the political opposition on May 17, 2022, on Kievyan Street. It was previously reported that through necessary measures, the identity of one of the individuals who used violence against the police officer was determined to be Igor Yuri Khachaturov.

Based on a sufficient combination of evidence, Igor Khachaturov has been charged under Article 316, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and a motion has been submitted to the court for his detention as a preventive measure, which has been granted.

It is noteworthy that during the investigation, information was received indicating that the citizen Igor Khachaturov, who committed violence against the police officer, was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. To clarify this circumstance, the investigating authority has decided to conduct a toxicological examination; however, Igor Khachaturov has refused to provide samples.

The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing. Necessary measures are being taken to carry out an objective and comprehensive investigation.

Notification: The suspect or the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court verdict that has entered into legal force, in accordance with the rules established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia.
