Explosion Destroys Vehicle of Sotk Gold Mine Employee in Vardenis
An extraordinary incident occurred in the Gegharkunik region on May 19. Around 23:40, the Vardenis Police Department received a report of an explosion heard in the Banavan neighborhood of Vardenis.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, an operational group from the Vardenis Police Department, led by the department head, Philip Stepanyan, arrived quickly. Also present was Arthur Mkrtchyan, the head of the Gegharkunik regional police.
At the scene, it was established that at approximately 23:40, a Volkswagen Vento belonging to 37-year-old Arkadi Martirosyan, parked in the yard of building six on Mine Workers Street, had been damaged by an explosion. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The investigation at the scene was led by senior investigator Grisha Gasparyan from the investigative division of the Vardenis Police Department, who is preparing materials regarding the incident.
According to G. Shamshyan, Martirosyan works at the “Geopromining Gold” LLC at the Sotk gold mine. The police are taking necessary operational and investigative measures to uncover the crime and identify those responsible.
During the examination of the crime scene, a detonator was also discovered.
