Composition of the Demarcation Commission is Ready: Secretary of the Security Council

The status of Artsakh will depend on security and the protection of rights. This was stated by the Secretary of the Armenian Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, during a press briefing with journalists following the cabinet meeting today, in response to a question about the possibility of including Artsakh within Azerbaijan.

“We state that security and the protection of rights are paramount. This means that our compatriots living in Artsakh must have security and protection of their rights. The status of Artsakh will stem from this. We are negotiating on this agenda,” said the Secretary of the Security Council.

Addressing the issue of creating the demarcation and delimitation commission, Grigoryan noted that the composition of the commission is ready and will be announced soon. He recalled that according to statements from Sochi and Brussels, Armenia and Azerbaijan need to form a bilateral working group for demarcation and delimitation. During the implementation of the process, the parties can seek assistance from both Moscow and Brussels.

It is worth mentioning that in April, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan reached an agreement in Brussels that the commission on demarcation would be established by the end of the month. On May 17, during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that the first meeting of the commissions of the two countries is scheduled for next week in Moscow. Despite this, the Armenian government has not yet published the composition of the Armenian side.
