Opposition Rally Participant Wanted for Violence Against Police Officer
The Investigation Committee of the Republic of Armenia continues the investigation into the case of violence committed against police officers by a participant of the political opposition rally on May 11, 2022, near the administrative building of the Yerevan Municipality.
It was previously reported that during the rally organized by the political opposition on the same day, when participants attempted to restrict access to the entrances of the municipal building, one of the attendees, who had been previously convicted four times for various crimes including robbery under aggravating circumstances, illegal carrying of firearms, and hooliganism, did not comply with the lawful demands of police officers on duty at the location. He used violence against them and even attempted to strike the officers with his head while threatening them with further violence.
As a result of the measures taken, the identity of the participant was established, revealing that he is Gegham Karapetyan, a 1987-born resident of Yerevan. He has been charged under part 1 of Article 316 of the RA Criminal Code, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate him and present him to the judicial authorities.
