Former Deputy of Avan Community Nercess Poghosyan Charged with Arms Trafficking

Nercess Poghosyan has been charged with illegally acquiring, transferring, and possessing military materials, specifically four "TT" type pistols and corresponding 7.62mm/7.62x25 caliber ammunition. This occurred during a search of his residence on March 4, 2022, following which the items were discovered. According to Armlur.am, Poghosyan did not possess the necessary permissions as outlined in Article 13 of the Law on Arms, which governs the circulation of military materials.

It is noteworthy that the former deputy has recently been in the center of several scandalous incidents. On February 26, during an intensified police operation, two individuals were apprehended on Tigran Mets Avenue on suspicion of drug possession. One of the detained was Nercess Poghosyan, the 42-year-old deputy mayor of the Avan administrative district, who was found with a used syringe. According to reports, Poghosyan claimed that he had found the syringe a day earlier in a park in Nor Nork and had taken it without intending to keep it.

Subsequently, police conducted a search of his home, where a small amount of hashish was also discovered. A criminal case has been initiated in relation to both the drug possession and the military material found during the search.
