WHO Inflated Excess Deaths Due to Covid-19 in Armenia, Ministry of Health Says
The World Health Organization (WHO) has inflated the excess death figures related to Covid-19 in Armenia. This statement was issued by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.
The ministry reports that, upon the instruction of Minister Anahit Avanesyan, an analysis was conducted of the latest WHO report on excess deaths from Covid-19 in Armenia.
“It turned out that the high figure of about 650 deaths per 100,000 population during the first two years of the pandemic presented in the technical working group report on mortality calculation is inflated, as it reflects not only deaths related to the pandemic but also deaths caused by the war and its aftermath. Moreover, for the years 2020 and 2021, preliminary data used by experts differ from the final figures,” the ministry's announcement states.
Considering the above, the Ministry of Health will address the WHO, requesting additional clarifications and a revision of the published analysis.
