Sri Lanka's President Accepts Prime Minister's Resignation
Sri Lanka's President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, reports the Sri Lankan Daily Mirror. The announcement was made by the President's secretary. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the President's elder brother, submitted his resignation on May 9. Previously, Prime Minister Rajapaksa had stepped down amid mass protests due to food shortages.
On May 6, Sri Lanka's President Gotabaya Rajapaksa declared a state of emergency due to the protests.
