Monroe's Iconic Portrait Bought by World’s Most Famous Art Dealer Larry Gagosian
An American painting by Andy Warhol featuring Marilyn Monroe has been sold at a Christie's auction for $195.04 million, making it the most expensive artwork in American history.
According to Gazeta.ru, the painting titled "Shot Sage Blue Marlin," which depicts Monroe against a light turquoise background, was created by Warhol in 1964 using silkscreen printing techniques. The portrait was made after the star's death.
The bidding attracted four buyers, with the piece ultimately going to the world's most renowned art dealer, Larry Gagosian.
