US Requests UN Security Council Meeting on North Korea Issues
The United States has requested the convening of a UN Security Council meeting regarding the situation related to North Korea's missile tests. This was reported by TASS.
A UN source informed the agency that the United States is asking the global organization to hold a meeting on May 11 at noon.
On May 7, Japan's coast guard announced that North Korea had launched yet another missile. It is believed to have fallen outside Japan's exclusive economic zone, in the sea. South Korean military officials assessed that the missile flew approximately 470 km, reaching a maximum altitude of about 780 km.
Prior to this, North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan on May 4. Following this, Japanese authorities expressed their protest to the North Korean government.
Due to the frequency of missile launches from North Korea, Japan has proposed to resume evacuation drills for the population. The last time such civil defense evacuation drills were conducted in the country was in 2017.
