Yerevan to Acquire 100 New Buses in About a Year, Mayor Signs Contract

The Yerevan community, with the support of the government, will be acquiring 100 units of 12-meter MAN buses. This information was announced by Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sarksyan on his Facebook page.

“I am pleased to inform that today marked another step towards the implementation of the new transportation system, as a contract was signed. According to it, the delivery date for the buses is set for March-April 2023. A number of practical steps have already been taken and will soon be undertaken for the implementation of the new transportation system,” wrote Sarksyan.

He emphasized that in the coming days, a tender will be announced for the acquisition of another 100 units of 8.6-meter buses. A competition has also been announced for the construction of a modern bus washing facility. A cashless payment system is expected to be introduced on certain routes throughout 2022, and the final implementation of a unified ticketing system is set to be completed in 2023.

With the support of the government, the construction of a new and modern bus terminal equipped with a bus charging station will soon commence. A package of amendments to the transportation legislation has been submitted to the government, which will allow for the involvement of private operators and payment for their services per kilometer traveled.

By the end of the year, 103 pedestrian signal lights with voice announcement systems will be installed.
