The Authorities Are Not in Control of the Situation, Says Sahakyan
Currently, inter-state roads are closed in the cities of Sevan, Ararat, Hrazdan, Gyumri, Ashtarak, Alaverdi, and Vanadzor. This was stated by Ishkhan Sahakyan, a member of the "Hayastan" faction, during a press conference at France Square.
“Police continue to use brute force, with special emphasis on black berets, who are evidently being directed by certain groups. We have information that some among them are carrying out instructions from specific oligarchs and circles of Nikol. As of now, we have over 200 detainees,” he said.
Sahakyan noted that pro-government circles are spreading information that there are few citizens in the streets and that university students are not joining the movement. “Today we were at YSU, we entered more than 10 lecture halls, and only one had students in it. Reality is one thing, what the authorities present is another; they are not in control of the situation,” emphasized Ishkhan Sahakyan, adding that many representatives of the authorities urge the police to use violence against citizens.
When asked about the calls from pro-government deputies to go to the National Assembly and make statements there, Sahakyan responded, “What can I say to those ‘brave hats’? I reiterate, the CP has a chance not to share Nikol's treacherous policy; we are ready to free them from captivity. Today, the authorities are more concerned with making Tigran Avinyan the mayor than handling issues regarding Vardenis and Syunik,” he stated.
Sahakyan mentioned that Aliyev is also concerned about the ongoing processes in Armenia. “The people and this square will decide who the next leaders of Armenia will be; the people must take to the streets. We already have public response; our task now is to bring these people to the streets in the next few days,” said Ishkhan Sahakyan.
