‘I Call, Ask, and Demand’: Pashinyan Issues Statement
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has issued a statement.
“Dear citizens of the Republic of Armenia, I warmly congratulate us all on the occasion of Citizen's Day. This holiday was established to underline the key role of the Citizen in the formation and development of a democratic state.
The non-violent, velvet, popular revolution of 2018 is a symbol of the establishment of Citizen power in Armenia, and that value is irreversible and steadfast. The page of election falsification and thus depriving Citizens of their constitutional right to make decisions has remained in the past, and Armenia is now perceived globally as a country with electoral democracy.
Also, because after the catastrophic 44-day war of 2020, the Citizen not only prevented the chaos of the state but also elevated our country’s democratic standing during the extremely difficult post-war period.
Dear people, proud Citizens of the Republic of Armenia, we have gone through and continue to undergo indescribable, sometimes, let's say it bluntly, unbearable difficulties. Every day, every hour, at every step, there are attempts to infect us with doubt and hesitation, trying to undermine our faith in our past and future, and, more importantly, in our mission.
I call upon, ask, and demand all of you: do not hesitate, do not doubt. We are not the perpetrators of the disasters that have befallen our country; we have deserved a harsh fate and a sacred mission—to lead our homeland through the inevitable and long-standing disasters to achieve a peaceful, prosperous, and happy future.
And on this path, we will not bend our knees and will not bend. Now, more than ever, I am convinced that we are on the right path and that we will bring our ship, which has found itself in a stormy ocean, to a peaceful harbor.
And so, long live Freedom, long live the Republic of Armenia, long live our children, who will live in a Free and Happy Armenia. Eternal glory to our martyrs,” Pashinyan wrote.
