Chief Prosecutor and Human Rights Defender to Speak in Parliament

Chief Prosecutor and Human Rights Defender to Speak in Parliament

The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that today the next four-day session of the National Assembly (NA) begins. The opposition, which has been protesting in the streets for several weeks, is unlikely to participate in this session. While there were rumors that they might use the NA podium to call for action, our source indicated that such a move seems unlikely at this stage.

The parliamentary agenda is quite packed, including the appointment of a vacant member of the Television and Radio Commission, the annual report of the Prosecutor's Office to be presented by Chief Prosecutor Arthur Davtyan, the Human Rights Defender's report, and various legislative proposals.

It is noteworthy that the ruling party has proposed Gohar Mamikonyan as a member of the Television and Radio Commission. Mamikonyan served as an advisor to the then Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Arayik Harutyunyan from 2018 to 2021, and since April 1, 2021, she has been the head of the Youth Policy, Additional and Continuing Education Department at the ministry.
