Why limit to the 20th century? We can start from the 6th century BC Babylonian maps, Mirzoyan to Aliyev

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ararat Mirzoyan, has addressed the statements made by Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev, regarding the process of border demarcation with Armenia, which is said to rely on maps from 1918 and all those that existed until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Aliyev suggested that some of the maps from 1918-1920 depict Yerevan and Syunik as being allegedly part of Azerbaijan.

“We are not opposed to studying maps. But why limit ourselves to the 20th century? We can start from the maps created in Babylon in the 6th century BC, or those established by Herodotus in the 5th century BC, or by Strabo in the 1st century BC, or those created by Claudius Ptolemy in the 2nd century AD, or the maps drawn by Pliny the Elder during the same period. Additionally, we can continue with numerous Latin, Byzantine, Arab, and other geographical descriptions and maps from subsequent periods. Armenia has no fear of not being found on those maps. Nevertheless, being interested in the effective work of the future demarcation and border security commission, the Republic of Armenia believes that this work should be based on maps that have legal force agreed upon by both sides,” Mirzoyan stated.
