The US Goal in Ukraine is Russia's 'Strategic Failure': Pentagon Official

US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Celeste Wallander has stated that the aim of the White House within the context of the Ukrainian crisis is to ensure the military, political, and economic failure of Russian forces, TASS reported.

"The task of the US government regarding Russia, as well as European security, the sovereignty of Ukraine, and territorial integrity is that this crisis ends in a strategic failure for Russia," she said.

Wallander added that sanctions imposed over time will increasingly harm various sectors of the Russian economy, including the defense industry. The Pentagon spokesperson emphasized that Western countries will make efforts to hold the Russian leadership accountable both to the Russian population and to other countries.

This is important, according to her, as the world is watching whether the Russian Federation will succeed.
