No Agreement on 'Azovstal' Evacuations, Peskov
During the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, there was no clear agreement regarding the participation of the UN and the ICRC in the evacuation of civilians from 'Azovstal'. This information was shared by the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov.
“Mr. Guterres indeed raised this topic, which will be discussed later, but there is no specific agreement on this matter,” Peskov stated in response to a journalist's question about whether Putin had agreed to involve the UN and ICRC in the evacuation of civilians from 'Azovstal'.
Previously, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced during his meeting with President Putin in Moscow that the organization is ready to mobilize its resources in conjunction with the International Committee of the Red Cross to stabilize the situation in Mariupol. The Russian leader assured that there are no hostilities ongoing in the city, and that the 'Azovstal' plant is completely isolated.
After the meeting, UN Secretary-General's official spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that President Vladimir Putin had agreed for the UN and ICRC to participate in the evacuation of civilians from 'Azovstal'.
