Wikipedia Fined 3 Million Rubles

The Moscow court has fined the Wikimedia non-profit charitable organization 3 million rubles for seven Wikipedia articles that contain false information about the special operation in Ukraine, as well as the events in Bucha and Mariupol. This was reported by a TASS correspondent from the courtroom No. 422 of the Tagansky District of Moscow, where the corresponding administrative protocols were discussed on Tuesday.

“The court has found the Wikimedia organization guilty under Part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation and has imposed a fine of 3 million rubles,” Judge Timur Vakhrameyev read the decision.

It follows from the materials read in court that the reason for the fine was the seven articles from Wikipedia, including those regarding the activities of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine, the events in Bucha, and the destruction of a hospital and theater in Mariupol. This is the first case in which Wikimedia has been subject to administrative liability under this article of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

Wikimedia is a charitable organization that maintains the infrastructure for the implementation of several multilingual, crowdsourced projects, including Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikibooks, and others.
