Pentagon Responds to Lavrov's Statement
The United States sees no reason for the Ukrainian conflict to escalate into a nuclear war and is not changing the readiness level of its deterrent forces. This was stated by a Pentagon spokesperson during a CNN broadcast.
John Kirby specifically said, “I agree with Mr. Lavrov that there are no winners in a nuclear war and it should never be started. There is no need for the current conflict in Ukraine to reach that level. As I mentioned, we are closely monitoring the situation’s developments. We do not see anything that would compel us to change the readiness level of our strategic nuclear deterrent forces, nor our willingness to defend our country and our allies.”
It is worth recalling that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on the Russian First Channel that the risks of nuclear war are now very real, and this danger cannot be underestimated, as there are many who are ready to artificially inflate that threat.
