Mother Throws 2-Year-Old Daughter into Debed River: Police
On April 25 at 17:45, a report was received that a two-year-old child had fallen into the Debed River in the city of Alaverdi. The mother of the child informed the operational group of the Tumanyan police department that her daughter had fallen from a sitting position on a gas pipeline near the railway bridge in the Piruzyan neighborhood of Alaverdi due to loss of supervision.
This was reported by the police. A young man from Alaverdi who participated in the search and rescue operations conducted by the Tumanyan police and the Emergency Situations Ministry discovered the child about 1 km away from the scene, on the left bank of the Debed River, in a state of drowning and unconsciousness. The child was immediately taken to the hospital. According to preliminary information, her life is not in danger.
During the preparation of materials, circumstances of the incident were clarified by the operational-intelligence measures undertaken by the criminal investigation department (CID) of the Tumanyan police. The child's mother was taken to the Tumanyan police department on suspicion of attempted murder. She reported that with the intent to unlawfully deprive her young daughter of life, she threw her into the Debed River from a height of 3-4 meters at the specified location.
A criminal case has been initiated under the provisions of Article 34-104 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (Attempted Murder) at the Tumanyan police department. The 30-year-old woman has been arrested, and an investigation is underway.
