Zakharova Accuses the West of Ignoring Russia's Interests

The current disagreements between Russia and the USA and Europe have arisen from the long-term neglect of Russia's security interests. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“The disagreements that exist between Russia, the USA, and Europe have arisen because, for a long time, our country's security interests have been directly ignored. Step by step, the mechanisms for arms control created by workers were destroyed,” Zakharova said in an interview with RT.

She added that it is in everyone's interest to return to dialogue within the framework of indivisible European security and to develop rules for peaceful coexistence based on the principle of respecting the legitimate interests of all major states.

According to her, the international relations system is undergoing a period of deep reform. “The unipolar world is a thing of the past, long before the events in Ukraine. New centers of power in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East are playing a more and more important role in shaping the global agenda and are ready to defend their interests while demanding respect for their developmental paths,” the Russian Foreign Ministry representative explained.

In Zakharova's opinion, this configuration does not suit the USA and other Western countries. “They are not ready to concede their privileged positions on the global stage and are trying to halt or slow down the democratization process of international relations,” she clarified.
