Russia's Victory in Ukraine Must Not Be Allowed: Olaf Scholz

Western countries will continue to support Ukraine with money and weapons, but direct NATO involvement in the conflict is not being considered. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on April 19, following negotiations with leaders of Western countries.

The video conference included US President Joe Biden and representatives from other G7 countries, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Polish President Andrzej Duda, and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

“Together with our partners in the EU and NATO, we are fully aligned that Russia must not win,” said Scholz.

He also directly addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to cease military operations in Ukraine and withdraw military personnel.

According to the German Chancellor, the decision for NATO not to intervene in the Ukraine conflict is a unanimous position among allies. At the same time, Scholz noted that Germany's armed forces (Bundeswehr) have already exhausted their capability to supply weapons from their reserves to Ukraine. In this regard, Berlin is in talks with defense industry companies regarding what weaponry and how quickly it can be offered to Kyiv.
