Foreign Mercenaries in Ukraine Must Be Held Accountable: Medvedev

Foreign mercenaries participating in military operations in Ukraine and refusing to surrender to Russian forces will bear full responsibility for their actions. This statement was made by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, on his Telegram channel.

He emphasized that mercenaries are not "volunteers" and do not qualify as legitimate combatants, thus falling outside the protections of the Geneva Conventions. "Therefore, foreign mercenaries in Ukraine must fully account for their actions. Of course, if they survive," the politician noted.

Medvedev reminded that mercenary activity is not a new phenomenon in historical terms. "After all, foreigners with weapons can easily elevate any contractor to a throne, not just those who invited them," he explained, highlighting that the key factor is that they are paid in foreign currency.
