The Peace Agenda Has a Broad Public Consensus, I Also Join This Consensus - Lena Nazaryan
Member of the National Assembly from the "Civil Contract" faction Lena Nazaryan stated that during meetings with citizens and the relatives of fallen soldiers, she sees that the peace agenda has a very broad public consensus. In her speech, Lena Nazaryan noted that the parliamentary opposition continuously rejects the Government's proposals to meet and address all questions.
“In fact, I believe that they are not losing much, because everything has been said over time and is now being communicated quite openly and publicly. I think they should also be understood correctly. They can't just leave the table after an open discussion and continue pretending to be unaware. Otherwise, they appear uninformed, hence irresponsible. They have chosen a very convenient status for themselves. This is a pseudo-opposition stance, and perhaps we should accept them as such,” said Nazaryan.
However, the deputy is surprised by the stance of civil society. “Two months ago, representatives of civil society - mostly women - gathered in front of the Government building with considerable justified indignation (the day before there had been new casualties at the border), and they had demands addressed to the Government. They demanded deeper trenches to be dug, they demanded fortification works to be done at the border, they demanded that conscripts be removed from the border, in exchange for contract servicemen to be sent to the border as if the lives of contract soldiers are less important. And, to my surprise, these respectable women, representatives of civil society, did not make a decisive and unequivocal demand to the Government to go and sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, to close the chapter on the war, and to find solutions,” emphasized Nazaryan.
The deputy does not seek to shape the agendas of the opposition and civil society, but one thing is clear to her: this Government, which promotes the peace agenda, is the most progressive. “This is a very abnormal and strange phenomenon. Normally, the opposite is true; normally, the opposition and civil society are more progressive. But I am always reassured by the fact that during meetings with citizens and the relatives of fallen soldiers, I see that the peace agenda has a very broad public consensus. And I too join this public consensus, I express my support for the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and their team and the entire Government with the decisive and unequivocal demand to implement the peace agenda,” concluded Nazaryan.
