What is the Opposition Planning to Do in Artsakh and Armenia's Border Regions: Sagatelyan

Opposition factions in the National Assembly will meet with the people in Artsakh and also with political forces and officials in the region.

According to Armenspress, this was stated by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ishkhan Sagatelyan, a member of the "Armenia" faction, during a conversation with reporters in Parliament, addressing the opposition's boycott of the Assembly session and their plan to head to Artsakh and Armenia's border regions.

“We believe that Armenia’s number one agenda is Artsakh and the security of Armenia. At this moment, discussing issues in the National Assembly that have no direct relevance to our country’s vital interests is not appropriate. Therefore, the two parliamentary opposition factions have decided not to participate in this session and will be in Artsakh, Syunik, and then in Tavush and Gegharkunik in the upcoming days, in other words, in Artsakh and those parts of Armenia where there are security issues. We will hold meetings with the people, work on raising security issues, and likely there will be parliamentary hearings on the artsakh issue, during which we will discuss the situation with the political forces and officials in Artsakh,” said Sagatelyan.

According to him, the government has moved away from this agenda, while they are committed to following this path. “We must focus the attention of our entire public on the Artsakh issue, this is Armenia’s security and our main issue today,” noted the MP.

Responding to comments from government MPs regarding opposition members raising the Artsakh flag in the parliament chamber, Sagatelyan stated that it is not a symbolic act, but rather a very clear political and popular message to other countries and the current authorities.
