VIDEO: Two Decisions Made Following Negotiations in Brussels

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan revealed details during today’s government meeting about the trilateral meeting held yesterday in Brussels between him, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and European Council President Charles Michel.

Pashinyan reported that two decisions were made as a result of the negotiations in Brussels: to initiate preparatory work for peace negotiations between the two countries, and to establish a bilateral commission on the delimitation of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan by the end of April.

The Prime Minister elaborated that the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan have been tasked with starting the preparatory work for a future peace treaty and to undertake negotiations in this direction. “This means that the principles presented by Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the peace treaty should be consolidated and addressed as a result of negotiations. I have already voiced our considerations regarding this matter, and you are aware that in response to Azerbaijan’s proposals, we have emphasized that there is nothing unacceptable to us in them, but they do not address the questions of the peace agenda in their entirety. It is fundamentally important for us to ensure the security guarantees of the people of Artsakh, the protection of their rights and freedoms, as well as the clarification of the final status of Artsakh. These issues are included in our responses regarding the peace agenda and should become subjects of negotiation,” stated Pashinyan, emphasizing the importance of the involvement of the OSCE Minsk Group in this process and the need to continue working in this direction.

According to Pashinyan, during the Brussels visit it was also decided to create a bilateral commission for delimitation and demarcation issues along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. He noted that the commission will have a dual mandate: to carry out delimitation work and to establish stability along the border.
