‘This is a turning point’: US Congress members appeal to Biden on Kyiv
A group of US Congress members called on President Joe Biden on April 5 to increase military assistance to Ukraine. This is stated in a letter posted on the website of one of the Congress members. The signatories include members of the Armed Services, Intelligence, and Foreign Affairs Committees of the House of Representatives. A total of 44 Congress members have signed the document.
Specifically, they requested the supply of long-range air-to-ground missiles, fighter jets, anti-ship weapons, Stinger surface-to-air systems, Javelin anti-tank systems, long-range drones, and radars to Ukraine.
“We can bring about a significant change by helping Ukrainians defend against Putin’s invasion. Ukraine’s leadership is asking for assistance from the world, and we feel that the United States must act. We urge President Biden to heed the calls of the Ukrainian leadership and provide the support they and the Ukrainian people are asking for peace,” said Congressman Andy Kim.
Congressman Jason Crow, in turn, noted that “Ukraine’s fight for freedom and democracy is a fight that it must win.”
“Ukrainians will be able to win, but in the coming months, they will need more support. That is why I urge my colleagues to increase military assistance to our Ukrainian brothers and sisters. This is a turning point in the fight for democracy, and we must win,” he added.
