Protests in Georgia: Thousands Take to the Streets

In neighboring Georgia, thousands of people have taken to the streets demanding a reduction in fuel prices. This information is reported by Sputnik Georgia. Protests are being held in the capital Tbilisi and in Kutaisi.

Fuel prices in Georgia have been on the rise since last autumn, with sharp fluctuations recorded in February and March of this year. In particular, the price of 92-octane gasoline has increased by almost 12 percent in just one month. The cost of one liter has reached over $1.70, while 95-octane gasoline prices have hit a historical minimum of nearly 4 lari (approximately $1.25). The main reasons for the price increase include the situation in the international market and exchange rates.

Participants in the rally believe that reducing excise taxes could help lower fuel prices. They are seeking a meeting with government representatives to present their proposals.

The protest in Tbilisi began on Rustaveli Avenue and continued in the square in front of the parliament. Demonstrations against rising fuel prices have also taken place in Batumi, Ozurgeti, and Telavi.
