“This Could Lead to a New War”: Abrahamyan on the Situation in Artsakh

The situation in Artsakh has become not only a humanitarian but also a security disaster. Azerbaijan has expanded its arsenal of pressures against Artsakh, and no long-term solution is visible at this time. This was stated by Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the 'We Have Honor' parliamentary group, during a press conference. He emphasized that the current situation in Artsakh is exhibiting trends of becoming even more complex.

The opposition lawmaker stressed that there needs to be a long-term understanding of what measures will be taken to mitigate their dangerous consequences on Artsakh. 'The issue is not only about gas supply or implementing certain social programs; the problem is much more complex. The government must have comprehensive programs, because the accumulation and unresolved nature of these issues could lead to two major outcomes: either the significant depopulation of Artsakh or, alternatively, it could lead to a new war,' said Abrahamyan.

He noted that there are ongoing processes around us, involving our participation, that may create a tangible risk of military actions after a certain period of time. 'There is one thing to negotiate to prevent war, and another to prepare the security and state governance systems for possible actions. It is the state's responsibility to create conditions for acting and resolving issues based on situational developments,' Abrahamyan pointed out.
