Number of Casualties from the Armenian Side in the 44-Day War: New Data Released by the Investigative Committee
The Main Investigation Department of the Military Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia continues its inquiry into the facts of the aggressive war unleashed and conducted by the military-political leadership of the Republic of Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh. This includes the use of pre-recruited mercenaries during military operations, application of prohibited methods and means of warfare, the failure to distinguish between military personnel and civilian residents, and the systematic, premeditated, and targeted attacks against the civilian population in the peaceful areas of the Republic of Artsakh, particularly the civilian population in the deep rear and civilian objects. Such actions are considered severe violations of the norms of international humanitarian law.
The Investigative Committee reports that within the framework of this criminal case, it has been established that as a result of the aggressive war unleashed by Azerbaijan, the total number of soldiers and civilians who lost their lives in the Republic of Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia stands at 3,822 individuals. As of March 21, 2022, the whereabouts of 187 soldiers and 21 civilians remain unknown.
To date, Azerbaijan has handed over a total of 150 captured soldiers and civilians to the Republic of Armenia. The investigation is ongoing.
