Blizzard on Certain Roads: Situation on Armenia's Highways

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reports that there are closed and difficult-to-pass highways in the territory of Armenia. Due to weather conditions, it is advised to travel only when absolutely necessary.

The following roads are closed in the Aragatsotn province: the highways from the 'Amberd' high mountainous meteorological station to the Amberd fortress and K'ari Lake, the Vardenyats Pass, Berd-Chambarak, as well as the Vayots Dzor province's Vayk-Jermuk, Gndevaz-Jermuk routes. In Ararat province, the roads from Lanjarr to Lusashogh are closed, in Shirak province the roads from Mets Alagyaz to Artik and from Artik to Mantash, as well as Tsoghamarg-Bavra, the inter-community highways of Amasia and Ashotsk.

The Vayk-Sisian-Goris-Kapan highway is closed for freight vehicles and is difficult to navigate for passenger vehicles (one-way traffic is allowed). The Vanadzor-Dilijan, as well as the Vanadzor-Alaverdi roads in Lori province, as well as the Ijevan-Bagratashen and Novemberyan-Kirants roads in Tavush province are closed for articulated freight carriers, while difficult conditions exist for other types of vehicles.

The curls at Spitak and Step'anavan in Lori province, Alaverdi-Jiliza and Tashir-Blagodarnoye, as well as inter-community roads in Syunik province, the Aragatsotn region at Aparan and Talin, and in Shirak province, Maralik and Lanjik are difficult for all types of transport. Black ice can be found in some areas of the highways in the Aragatsotn region.

In Syunik province, snowfall is reported in Kapan, Kajaran, and Meghri, while in Lori province, snowfall is noted in Vanadzor, and in Gegharkunik province, in Chambarak, along with Tavush's Dilijan. Blizzard conditions are present on the roads of the Aragatsotn region, in Aragats, Shirak province's Ashotsk, Artik, Maralik, and in the Hovuni-Jajur-Kaps-K'eti highway.

Regarding Lars, according to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia's emergency department and the crisis management center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in North Ossetia of the Russian Federation, the Stepantsminda-Lars highway is closed for freight transport but open for passenger vehicles. There are about 400 freight trucks on the Russian side. Drivers are advised to travel exclusively with winter tires.
