11 Armenians Killed Due to War in Ukraine, Local Armenian Organizations Report

The Union of Armenians in Ukraine has reported that the number of Armenians killed since the outbreak of war in the country has reached 11. Yesterday, 26-year-old Artyom Aivazyan lost his life in Kharkiv; he was a volunteer assisting those in need in his city by delivering food and medicine.

Among the victims, 8 are civilians. “Seven of them are peaceful residents of Armenian nationality, and three are, so to speak, military personnel. The first victim was in the city of Kherson, and it has been 10-15 days since, we also have fatalities in Chongar and Mariupol,” stated David Mkrtchyan, Vice President of the Union of Armenians in Ukraine.

Before the war, the Armenian population in Ukraine was about 350,000, but it is unknown how many have managed to leave the war-torn country in the last three weeks. The Vice President mentions they are trying to ascertain how many remain. They have reached out to the Border Guard Service of Ukraine, but the latter is overwhelmed and unable to maintain such statistics. “They are having great difficulty even distinguishing surnames from the entire list to create a separate record for us,” he added.
