Central Bank of Armenia Responds to Ukraine's Call to Halt Transactions with Russian Mir Cards

The Central Bank of Armenia has addressed Ukraine's call to cease transactions involving Russian Mir payment cards.

In a response to an inquiry from Armenpress regarding the Central Bank's stance on the announcement by the National Bank of Ukraine, which urges Armenia, Turkey, Tajikistan, and several other countries to stop all operations with the Russian Mir payment cards, the Central Bank of Armenia stated that the public will be appropriately notified of any actions in this regard.

“The National Bank of Ukraine has publicly announced that it has appealed to partner countries' banks to stop transactions involving Russian Mir payment cards in their national systems. The decisions of the Central Bank of Armenia have always been transparent, and in any case, the public will be duly informed of any actions,” the Central Bank of Armenia stated.

The proposal from the National Bank of Ukraine specifically relates to the termination of service for Mir cards at ATMs and POS terminals, as well as making their use impossible for e-commerce and remittances.
