Will Taron Margaryan Be Nominated for the Position of Yerevan Mayor?
The newspaper "Hraparak" writes: "In about a year and a half, in the autumn of 2023, the residents of Yerevan will have to elect a new mayor again. There are already discussions about potential candidates for the mayoral position and which team will nominate whom. The authorities intend to nominate Tigran Avinyan.
There is talk of the possible nomination of Taron Margaryan, the former mayor of Yerevan and currently a member of the 'Honorary' faction. However, it is still unclear whether he will enter the race as a nominee of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) or the 'Honorary' alliance.
Rumors also suggest that the 'Armenia' alliance is planning to nominate Robert Kocharian's younger son, Leon Kocharian. Some have been mentioning Arthur Vanetsyan's name as well.
Yesterday, when Taron Margaryan was asked if he intended to run for the mayor's office, he did not answer directly: "When are the mayoral elections? I think there is still time. When the time comes, our party will announce it." Do you think the residents will vote for you? Margaryan replied: "I simply don’t want to talk about something that is a year and a half away. We’ll talk in a year and a half."
